Desktop Swag Update. It's All In The Details...

Finished refining detail levels on the "construction set" I use here to build the various accessory items. At least now I can get back to reworking the designs and releasing them. I had alot of the new releases done already but after test printing them, I decided I wanted "more". Once you print these things youll understand why.                                Enjoy...

D1 Wet Palette Teaser

Finals are finished.  and all I'm waiting on is getting some displays finished up for photos. I originally was going to do an additional lid or two, and instead (as promised) went to 11 after my standard level 10. The medallions are printed separate, as is the insert lid so you can choose which to go with. The design is meant to be used on any standard printer, but in doing so, I'm giving you the option (as I did for my own) to print the medallions themselves in a higher resolution.     The patterning and textures I use are meant to be accented by the typical 0.20 layer heights, while by preference you can go crazy on the medallions (I prefer 0.05) since they are small. They look good either way, I just like to allow option. Included with the release will also be a medallion blank and a tutorial so you can easily make your own. I had to challenge myself a little to hold back on my symmetry OCD, to retain the look of carved stone.   One of my testers noted that (And I quote) "You know aside from this being a damn fine wet palette,...

D1 Wet Palette Almost Finished...

I had to temporarily set aside the D1 Modder's Paint Rack Corner Module to wait on incoming wood filaments, theres been a delay from the manufacturer and you all know I'm picky about my finished item photography. That said, I finished up the Wet Palette and have been testing it. Looks like I'm happy and will be decking the finished design out for photography a little later today, so expect this to be released real soon.   Why? Who wants to order the "Poo-Poo Palette"? Not in this son's lab. We do it with style. Like mummified lizard on your favorite chair style. "It's the little nubbies that keep you wanting more."     Some features not apparent in the notebook renders shown here: Optional Magnets for securing the lid. Stackable! (Stackable you say?) A second and third alternate lid design. These are super secret for a good reason. I like blowing you away.  Some people (like me) prefer keeping different types of paints seperate - I approach this in the design and hope you enjoy the thought put into this as much as I have had designing it.

D1 Series Terrain & Effects Masks:   Another angle on cranking up the efficiency and precision you have with terrain models while they are in progress. I'm hoping to keep these community driven!  My tests of concept yielded outstanding results (pictures later) and I'm pretty stoked about the possibility of what others can come up with. You can get it  FREE  here:   D1 Terrain & Effects Mask Set 1     Set 1  includes a blank mask plate and tutorial so you can make your own. Hopefully, if you enjoy these, and make some that any macaques momma would appreciate, you upload them to our group devoted to this  linked below .   These are the first rare gems of ability mentioned with the Easel release. While it's not needed, I designed it and came up with these as part of my system.   Find out about updates, ask questions, or see whats in the line for the next level of boomity-boom. I'm not stopping with just this folks. Hit our group here:  Modder's Lab   Included is a  bonus 9th mask  as shown in the documentation tutorial. Print as many as you like. D1 Terrain & Effects Easel Released!

Self Indulgent, yes. Useful? Of course. Remember, it's all about good tools, so why dont you up your bench with good looking stuff? I like mixing both.   My angle on cranking up the efficiency and precision you have with terrain models while they are in progress. If youre like me, while working models theres never enough scatter laying around the bench to lean them up against. Jitters. Bad angles. Cats... Your Modder's Jutsu demands daily practice. Practice on the technique, not swatting the stray macaque or cursing the light.   It's in our store:   Purchase It here!   Ok, terrain- tiles specifically. Anyone who's cranking them out knows you can amass craploads of it to do. While I'm not adverse to brushing the tiles, I prefer the airbrush as it can speed things along and in my view, give a much more detailed result. Personally, I don't like my work, and even terrain to look like production line shit. In upcoming videos you'll see exactly what I mean and this little system I'm working on lets you kick things up a few notches. In the example shots you'll see a basic floor tile. You can snot wash on it...

Finishing Up The D1 Easel

This one was fun. Just finishing up the printing on the display version.   What is this exactly?   Ok, terrain- tiles specifically. Anyone who's cranking them out knows you can amass craploads of it to do. While I'm not adverse to brushing the tiles, I prefer the airbrush as it can speed things along and in my view, give a much more detailed result. Personally, I don't like my work, even terrain to look like production line shit. In upcoming videos you'll see exactly what I mean and this little system I'm working on lets you kick things up a few notches. In the example note shots you'll see a basic floor tile. You can snot wash on it for detail, but I go a few more levels beyond 10 here- and the airbrush helps you achieve exactly that. Problem is, I'm a over caffeinated being most of the time and while working on alot of parts it can get tedious rotating the target and sometimes your angle isn't consistent between one to the next. I designed the easel to let you concentrate on your technique without having to constantly adjust for your hands being shakey from that coffee...  That...

Finally Re-Arranged The Workbench

Finally got around to tidying up the workbench (airbrush & finishing) so I can get back to the other 100 things.   It's been the plan to drop some videos, have a few live streams and get down to finishing the displays for the Kickstarter (Dungeon Tileset 1) which, is surpassing hundreds of tiles now and the mound of printed part numbers is ever growing. Usually I'd break it down into a few sessions but this time around I felt the finishing and painting should be done production style because I can both do a few tutorial videos on it, and it's how most of the people doing their own will be too. Theres an added benefit that wasn't apparent until my orangutan valet Victor dropped a half eaten mochi on my foot- it came to me that I can up the production game and put out a pretty cool set of things to speed that along too without making quality suffer. Contrary, it's (they) are going to up the game there too I think. Pretty excited about that as my preliminary tests have shown I'm definitely not throwing poo at the wrong crowd. Stay tuned. The shots are of the...

D1 Printable Model Stands Released!

D1 Printable Model Stands My take on holding and protecting models while they are in progress. If youre like me, while working models theres never enough scatter laying around the bench to lean them up against. Ever had one fall over and chip, or even break? I have. These days people are also displaying works in progress via social media, so why not do it right like your level of Modder's Jutsu demands?   You can purchase them here:  D1 Printable Model Stands   I'll be expanding on this series in short order, stay tuned.   Find out about updates, ask questions, or see whats in the line for the next level of boomity-boom. I'm not stopping with just this folks. Hit our group here:  Modder's Lab   Textured in our traditional "D1" dungeon stone to match the stylin' styling. Made to fit standard #9 corks, and alligator clips which are readily available. Easy to assemble, Print as many as you like. Print it and go, or mod it! I paint mine up because even though they look great in a dark print, my artist's OCD won't allow anything less.

D1 Series Expandable Modder's Paint Rack - Released!

Just a note- this was released some time ago. While it is still available, a new series is underway as of 12/2019     D1 Series Expandable Modder's Paint Rack - Printable, expandable, swagalicious modder's rack... Hey, we put alot of effort into modeling. One day I contemplated having to suffer a solution for the ever growing selection of paint ammo accruing on my bench and after 5 minutes scouting out there, I wasn't impressed. It didn't take long for me to decide to approach it the way I do best:   Over the top. I wanted something cool. No... Really cool. Like, 4 letter expletive cool. I think I nailed it.   It can be purchased here:  D1 Modder's Paint Rack   Find out about updates, ask questions, or see whats in the line for the next level of boomity-boom. I'm not stopping with just this folks. Hit our group here:    Modder's Lab   Textured in our traditional "D1" dungeon stone and woodgrain shelf styling. Designed to accomodate Vallejo, Army Painter, P3, Citadel, and more. Easy to assemble, and definitely expandable to satiate the craziest of configuration insanity. Holds 30 to UNLIMITED pots. Print it and go, or mod...

Design Update - Floor Variations

Just a brief update, almost finished finalizing the "smooth" D1 floor variation. The first question one might have is why am I making such a thing. In short, options. The technical side of it, I'm seeking to accommodate as many modders as possible by offering up a variation thats easier to dial in for those who may not have the greatest of time/luck dialing in their printers. Were here to help with that, yes, but remember the core of my philosophy is allowing anybody to end up with some really cool, kick ass tilesets to work with and not every printer on the market is up to the challenge. My design time is devoted to alot more R&D for this method than the artwork (at times) More on these ideas and work can be found in the D1 Discussion Group here. If you want to join in, you have to register on the site folks.

Special Edition - Airbrush/Miniatures Paint Rack Jutsu

Been pretty quiet on what I've been up to; The D1 Kickstarter is almost ready to go, and the things I've been working on in that department are well, kind of proprietary until launch so having to be a bit shady at this point.   However, a little something I can show off is one of the perks the backers will get for free. See, remember the quick "Bored Shitless Series" (laughs) rack I posted up earlier? Yes, I was being honest when I said I threw that together while contemplating my existence in the throne room early one morning on a tablet. This however, was the real end result I knew I'd follow through on.   I've been printing up a set (of course!) for myself and between the shelves being ancient wood textured, the riser's in the D1 Dungeon styling, and it's expandable design, I still managed to get my normal work on the series finished and on schedule too. This is what happens when I cut loose. May the Gods help you all.   Enjoy.

Design Notes: Walls.

Walls. The core less the floor. (laughs) When I approached this it was decided up front that one of the things I hated about other systems/sets I've seen over the years was repetition. See, going back to the 80's we did have tilesets, they were basically cast plaster and hydrostone. They werent very sturdy and still, most of them were by design repeated ones.   Well, here we are I said to myself.     I figured at least I'd want to offer up initially a selection so people could choose and not run into an immediate repeating of visual textures and lines. Inevitablly there will be some because remember we are printing these and a line has to be drawn somewhere. I settled on at least 3 or 4 variations on the larger tiles, but at the center of it all, the 2X2's were probably going to be the most used and needed the most variation. To start, 8 would be plenty.   As for the rest, the variable faces still have (In my mind) enough to keep most people pretty happy. Out there nobody's going my level of crazy yet and as time goes by, Ill probably add even...

Slotted Door Variations: Happy Now?

Slotted Door geometry and initial designs are done, very happy with these. As of this posting, I'm only showing the "Arched" doorways and doors, there are also a "Square" (Rectangle) standard doorway set as well. As with the other features of the system, I wanted variation. Wooden doors, reinforced doors, iron doors, portcullis, hidden, magical and coffee making. I'll add additional images when able. Enjoy!

Porticullis Work...

I think I found a way to add these that I'm happy with. Testing as we speak. (Update) - They're in! The new slotted system made these possible. Square and Arched variations (as shown) of course.

Arched Passages

Just a minor peek. After a few days of getting the website finished, I needed to get back to the tilesets. Cracked my knuckles on a few of the passages, doors, and preliminary alcoves and windows. I'll update with the "Square" pictures when I'm able to.   Enjoy.
